How Lives Can Change
Has something ever happened so suddenly it impacts you and the ones surrounding you? It
depends how you interpret this situation. This could impact your life in a positive or negative
way. In the stories “A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley,” and in the stories “Profile:
Malala Yousafzai” and “The Night Tourist,” Scrooge, Malala, and Euri undergoes major
changes as the result of sudden events in their lives.
In the play “A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley,” the character of Scrooge undergoes
a change from a cruel miser to a joyful, generous individual as a result of a visit from the
three spirits. The ghost of Christmas Past, Present and Future shows Scrooge events from his
life will positively affect him and others around him. “Spirit! Hear me! I am not the man I was.
I will not be the man I would have been but for this intercourse. Why show me this, if I am past
all hope?” Being a generous kind person is the key to life. (My Perspectives page 284)
In the story “Profile: Malala Yousafzai” the character of Malala goes from being a young poor
school girl to being world famous. This all because she was shot and she survived. Militants got
to her school and shot her and two of her friends. Malala survived the wound and her
hospitalization, then went to the U.K. She took her campaign worldwide and now she is all over
the media. “From delicate surgery at Pakistani military hospital to further operations and
treatment in the U.K, and afterword’s as she took her campaign worldwide has been closely
followed by the worlds media.” She is a different girl than she was four years ago.
(Profile: Malala Yousafzai page 1 stanza 7)
In the story “The Night Tourist” Euri goes from being a poor young school girl to being dead
and living in the underworld. This all happened because she wasn’t happy with life so she killed
herself. Euri was not happy with life, so one day on her way home she jumped in front of a train
and killed herself. “She paused, and Jack waited for her to continue. ‘The circle means suicide.
I have a circle.’” Euri says she regrets doing it, and she wishes she could go back and see the
people she misses. (The Night Tourist page 134)
In conclusion, lives can be changed very quickly and suddenly. It all depends how you react
to the change slowly, myriad or if the change is permanent like Euri. You should react positively,
so you have a better chance of things going good like for Malala.
